I'm sure all my US blog fans know of the recent demise of a much loved cake baker , Hostess , and their jewel in the crown product Twinkies.
I'm sure Twinkie The Kid will ride again but in the meantime Mrs. Freshley ( not her real name I'd wager ) has stepped up to the plate and cooked us up some Dreamies.
Firstly the box design isn't quite as good ( no character ) but the white dollop of poo in the 'i' saves it from oblivion , I can forgive the lower case 'd' but they are about 10 years late to that party.
Moving onto the cake itself , not a bad effort Mrs. Freshley !
The sponge was nice and firm but still moist & fluffy, it was slightly more robust than a Twinkie .At a glance you couldn't tell them apart.
The 'creme' filling was a little too thick and granular for my taste , it lacked the airiness that Hostess delivered .
I can live with Dreamies until Someone buys the Twinkie brand and tells Mrs Freshley to cease baking but we need a character Mrs. - any suggestions ?

This is a twinkies imposter at best. The filling was more than just thicker and more granular, it had the taste and texture of frosting on a tasty cake or some other hostess wannabe. There is a certain artificial frosting quality that a lot of those other cakes have (not to say that twinkies are natural!) and this dreamie had that same familiar artificial taste that I don't like in other snack cakes. The look is right, the taste is not. the 2nd cake in the twin set went into the trash.
